  2. Brawlful Select John Moss Tapp | June 5, 2023 After Head Booker of Ambition and OCW Legend, Paul Pugh, returned on this week’s RIOT and promised the fans “A new era of Ambition”, pen has been put to paper and a new match has been slated for Ambition 78 this Wednesday. Insiders at Brawlful Select have learned that Scumchester Academy members, Luis Bishop and Christian Garcia, are set to go head to head in OCW’s first MMA Match! Due to the short notice of the match, it is set to be a Catchweight Bout set to contain 3, 5 minute rounds. Luis Bishop has been seen frantically running around trying to prepare for the match. He is expected to be training with Chance Williams, who he teamed up with on Riot 603, due to Chance’s history with multiple martial arts. Nothing has been heard about Christian Garcia’s preparation for the match. With this in mind, Ambition 78 is bound to be a major event in its return to Hell’s Kitchen this Wednesday, airing on the Rush TV network. 3. I think you're using the words META or OOC when what you mean is "People should take the content in a vaccum". Which I disagree, with but is fair. I don't have any OOC or META information, I have context. Sure, Aisu could have announced he was opening up a hot dog stand in the arena, but I would never think that's gonna be the next step based on what I know about Aisu and Aisu's speech before he got interrupted. It's not META, it's the audience expectation. If anyone comes out and starts talking about how great they're career was and starts thanking the people they've worked with, it hints towards them leaving and that goes for outside of OCW. That's not OOC information, that's what's being implied to the audience. Similarly, if I'm watching a wrestling show and two people have a tense confrontation, I expect to see them wrestle at some point. As for titles, that's what the sport is about. Could I see Aisu just wanting to fight OWEN for the sake of it and to "leave it all in the ring"? Maybe. But I could also see Aisu wanting to get the ultimate revenge on OWEN for interrupting him and taking his title since that title should be very important for OWEN.
  4. I don't believe I did any sort of meta analysis. I just analyzed it as a regular viewer with no outside knowledge. I also never said the story was a wash off the jump. I just didn't like THIS specific segment because of what I feel it sets up.
  5. We’re back. Lots of Words, Some Vids, and A Match Quick fire Nice to see Written Content from Harri, helps our champion feel fleshed out and less like an onscreen gag. Quartz-Deaver was nice to see from a world-building aspect and to show some of the ripple effects in a post "Team Kasstianity vs Team OCW" world. These same effects are beautifully mirrored later on in the show. Great Solo Writing from PAPA, wait that’s used, DADDY, wait that’s weird, FATHER Trance as he explains his actions. Mugen and Doc have a clever and petty battle of 1up-manship. Concussion Storylines Concussion angle is genius from a writer's perspective given the way in which OCW takes place and I'm upset I didn't think of it sooner. What better way to showcase it then this banger EMP-Terra promo that is probably my Promo of the Night Terra consistently tries to run from, and hide her past from Sue as it keeps catching up to her. At the same time, we have the increasingly overpowering heel undertones coming from our general manager, EMP. Before, we knew she wasn't a nice person but we just thought she was a little crazy and chaotic. By this point, it's pretty clear she's just a jerk, which sets up the sequence after our main event perfectly. Great work from all parties and I guess what they say is true, "Absolute power packed into a thicc 4"11 frame corrupts absolutely" Marcus-Jasmin Not a fan of this one because it felt like it very much took place in a vacuum. We start with a reference to one of Aisu's mask. With this, came no mention of his status with TWC, his attempted retirement, or his interaction with our NA Champion. To give the benefit of the doubt, the characters or the people writing them may have no idea of any of these events so I can excuse them for not digging deeper on Aisu. The next one I can't give the same benefit to. Throughout the whole promo, there is no mention of Marcus turning on John. Marcus is just a pure Babyface in this promo. We can't even use the whole "Well he likes her so he's nice to her'' reasoning because building off of Jasmin taking a firm anti-TWC stance last week, this would have been the perfect opportunity for Marcus to show how committed he is to her and talk to her with his light skin 360 waves in her ear like: "I choose you over everything bebegurl Forget Christian Garcia Forget John Carter It's just you and me, locked in til’ the end" Instead, we got the same Babyface Marcus that was too honorable to attack Christian Garcia earlier in the show, that exists in stark contrast with the Monster Heel Marcus that laid John Carter out for literally 6 whole minutes(I counted). This double-sucks because this could be remedied by having the feud be a Triple Threat. You have Snarky Garcia laughing cause he's turned them on each other and saying "Whatever happened to bros before-" you know the rest. On top of that, You have a Defensive and Angry Marcus holding his territory and defending his woman using them pythons. And you can have a Babyface John Carter who will feel wronged by both men and look to get revenge. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like this is what's happening and I can only hope TWC literally dieing doesn't get glossed over in favor of other storylines both Marcus and John are in. Kasstianity Kasstianity is feeling the effects of this economic recession as they have to say goodbye to yet another member. Given all the actual FPR chicanery during the tag match, Chris, the character, saying "I let McMichaels get that victory, after all" was something that I did not enjoy reading. That being said, the end of this promo referencing Mujera and leading up to a faceoff between her and Kass was nicely done. +1 Point for Conciseness. +1 Point for World Building. And +1 Point for Giving me A Reason to watch (read) next week. Between the Cody Hagen storyline, Chris Greene's recent run of form and whatever will happen with La Mujera, Kasstianity has found a way to keep itself relevant and in multiple storylines without trying to TAKE OVER THE WORLD (dun dun dun). It's a shame Harvey is still crying over spilt blood. Interlude I just finished writing the whole RP Section and THERE'S NO P3 ON THE SHOW. I don't know when's the last time that's happened but that's crazy. Rebuilding Hito This rebuilding Hito package was sick and nicely picked up where the last one left off. While part of me is disappointed he got booked last week and we ended up having to see him too early, another part of me thinks it’s a nice way for Hito to get some feedback and do little course corrections to make his proper return even more of a spectacle than I think it will be. Thoroughly hyped. Aisu Retires Like a True Wrestler Not a big fan of this one large in part to the whole retiring cliche it relied upon. Not only is it overdone, but I don’t think it makes much logical sense. If Aisu wins, does he retire and vacate the championship? If he loses, are we gonna get another promo from him saying goodbye that can be potentially interrupted again. While you could say that these are reasons to keep watching and stay invested, none of those outcomes seem that fun. OWEN’s voice promos are still a WIP but we’re slowly but surely getting there. Way more character and presence than some of the earlier ones and now just gotta focus on pacing both on the mic and in the video but the man already knows this. The video in general also ran a bit long but there were quite a few vid promos that ran long on this show. Marisa Welch-Mac vs Harri Etiquette Amazing clash of styles between the Explosive style of Marisa (guess you could say she’s a bombshell), and the hyper-acrobatic style of Harri. Amazing Comeback Win for Marisa against the New Champ, Big Props for sticking in there and securing the W. However, this brings to mind some thoughts about the game and how it works in the competitive environment. 2k22 thus far has proven to be way more incredibly volatile than 2k19 ever was. Even at the end of the cycle for 2k19 where we were all closer together in skill, it was way easier to predict matches and there was more of a sense of rankings and more separation between the ranks. Why is that? Could be a couple reasons. Could be because the game was such a drastic shift that all of a sudden a lot of “legacy” skills were completely abolished and everyone was on a more even ground. Or it could be because in replace of reversal management strategy, there are now infinite reversals which take a lot of the decision-making out of the game as “Just Reverse” takes you a lot further than it used to. Now, whatever your thoughts on that may be aside, it makes these sort of Non-Title Matches way harder to gauge. On the one hand, it might make matches seem more like the roll of a dice and less interesting, on the other, you never know what can happen. For every Quartz-Mac match, we also get a Quartz-Wrex or a Harri-Marisa match and from a pure storytelling aspect it makes things way more interesting especially as “The Card” is way more open than it ever has been as you can have someone like Hanzo come out of nowhere and go on a little streak against established people. New Opportunities and New Matches (in theory) exist now more than ever. Final Thoughts Really liked BOTH shows of 2022. I feel like we’ve come at the new year with some new energy which is exactly what you want to see after taking a break. Now this could also be because I’ve gotten some rejuvenated energy but either way, I’m enjoying it and can’t wait till next week. See y’all then.
  6. And that's on WHAT!? PERIODT
  7. I think in the original post I mentioned how "Let It Play Out" could be a way of saying "I was never planning of doing what you think I was doing, there's more you don't know" and while that is possible I think there is another less valid but understandable reason to say "Let It Play Out". It could also just be a way to pseudo-admit "I am wrong and I am gonna course correct". It could be "I was planning on doing what you think I was doing, but now I am not so let it...". In this second variation, it could be just a way someone tries to "make the hate go away" if they don't necessarily feel comfortable coming out as being in the wrong. Again, less valid, but understandable as a person might not feel comfortable telling the mob with pitchforks "Yeah you guys are right. I am terrible." It also serves as a realistic point of view as there is nothing anyone can do now as what's out there is out there, so all anyone can do it "let it play out". Not saying this even applies to this scenario, just mainly food for thought. Communication, even to those who have done something wrong, is still important. Assuming the worst case scenario, and treating the person opposite of you as the spawn of Satan isn't gonna bring them any closer to you and is only gonna make them feel more ostracized. Not saying that you've even done that here but it's just something that we as a community need to be conscious of. We see this happen all of the time in other popular incendiary spaces. You can insert any vague religious saying here about Spreading Love and Not Hate and being nice to the people around you. Thank you. Edit: To add on to my point about communication, I honestly get so worked up sometimes writing these long posts and it's just because I see all this hostility between a bunch of people who I personally don't hold any negative feelings against or see as "bad people" and then my youth and naivety just steps in and goes "Guys Stop It! Can't We All Be Friends" but while possible, that's clearly not plausible.
  8. Re: The Whole Sanctum-TWC Video Situation Warning: This whole situation is FUCKING stupid so this response is about to be some SEVERE fence-sitting so be prepared to get angry because by default, I’m gonna disagree with you(unless you’re specifically Colin or Jake because I think they had the most level headed responses). (You can insert a disgruntled CM Punk GIF from All Out here) Part 1: The Preface I’mma start this off by laying a groundwork cause this is something that I’ve seen “both sides”(ugh) try and dance around and that’s the IC vs. OOC thing. There is no form of moral high ground to take. This is 150% OOC infused. This means that you can’t sit there and try and defend it by saying it makes sense in character cause it doesn’t. And by that same token, you can’t try and attack the IC side of it using OOC information or act like you’re not acknowledging the OOC when you definitely are. If you took out all the discord and just “treated it like a real wrestling show”, then you’d sit there and be like “This is a poopy video but they’re gonna feud I guess” and it doesn’t make any sense. But at the same time, that’s not where the outrage lies. The outrage is “This person doesn’t like x person on discord and talks bad or said they’re not gonna work with this guy but they made this video about them, they must be tryna get at them” Part 2: What Should Have Happened Knowing what we know now and the supposed ideas going into it, this is what should have happened as this whole situation might have been the MOST AVOIDABLE SITUATION that anybody could have predicted if they thought about it. If you didn’t wanna spoil your match that’s fine, that’s reasonable, but this is clearly NOT how you do it. In my head, you have 2 options: 1. You can approach TWC beforehand but just don’t mention titles. If you want to pitch it specifically as a Non-Title feud, idk knock yourself out. You can use the OOC idea that you said you’d never give them a title shot just to fuck with them if you so pleased. 2. The Fun Option. Instead of sneaking them with the video on this show, you don’t. You cut a heel promo after your match and call out the whole division. Go shoot-y if you want. “We buried this whole division 6 feet deep and now the division is a graveyard”. After that, what’s a good spot to get a lot of eyes to “breathe new air into the feud”? IDK maybe the PPV. You let the heel promo air and thus let the results of the match be known and then go to TWC and confirm the feud and have them come out on PPV and be like “We’re still here” and you guys go “LOL NOPE!” and play the video. You see how easy it is to do what you want without spoiling the results of your match. It’s a shit reason at best and a poorly thought out excuse at the worst. Part 3:The Video Itself It’d be one thing if the video was JUST poorly made, which it was, or if it was JUST bad taste, which it was, or if the issue was that it buried TWC too hard, which it did but it somehow did all three and worse. The quality of the video I don’t think is particularly up for debate so I don’t think I need to spend so much time on this one. From an OOC perspective, it seemed low effort and the people involved can do better and have done better. From an IC perspective, it seemed like it was done by one of Fraser’s children on a school laptop. I don’t think the bad taste thing is debated either as it was probably just meant as a playful(more on that later) jab at TWC, OOC. However, it’s clear that this missed that boat on all fronts. From an IC thing, this buries TWC not necessarily so bad, but in such an uncreative way, based on statistics, that it basically creates the next point. If we are to believe that this was supposed to be a “surprise kickstart” to an old feud or “a twist to change things up” then none of the matter because of the execution. If they wanted to switch the affiliations and do that, that would be interesting. However, because of how they went about it and it being so uninspired, I have less than zero interest in watching this match and thus the whole point of the wrestling angle is moot. Final thing is if you are gonna do some tongue-in-cheek inside joke video or whatever this was thought to be, make it efficiently. As Jay says, KISS. Finally, this video and this sort of behavior is toxic however… Part 4: The Response It’s not the end of the world and not an attack on OCW as a whole. The most overblown part of the response to this video that I have seen is the amount of maliciousness attributed in this situation. To think that this is some sort of hit piece on TWC or just trying to bury them is almost as naive as thinking that this sort of video would ACTUALLY bury somebody and have a negative impact in (today’s?) OCW. To attribute this as an act of hate would not only assume so much hate and aforementioned naiveness, but that would fly in the face of so much OOC stuff that would point otherwise. But hey, maybe I just know too much or maybe yall seeing something I’m not. As I said before, this seemed like a playful diss more than a hateful one. SURELY, if this is hateful, then the idea would not have been to give them a title match. SURELY, if this is hateful, then there wouldn’t be a history of all people working together previously in other formats or there would have been something that you can point to that caused this sudden hateful reaction. Thank God, none of that’s the case or there would have been way bigger problems in OCW than this. This is with me saying in VP, "Is this 2013?" and referring to the times when people were slimy and trying to drag others but that was well-knowing that this is not what that is. It'd be one thing if Sanctum weren't the champs and were challengers trying to bury other challengers to get ahead and seem stronger but this so far from that. I’mma feel so stupid saying this but I guess I have to say it. If you believed Carter saying “Stop Ducking” and Fraser clapping back on discord in repetitive circular arguments was real hatred between the two teams, you got worked. Just Cringed Hella Hard, moving on. Part 5: The Response to The Response to The Response or Something In this exact instance, “Let It Play Out”, is a terrible defense. The reason it is a terrible defense is because “Let It Play Out” relies on the other side playing along and not having plans which is normally not an issue IF YOU CONSULT THEM but since they had no idea, “Let It Play Out” is basically “Trust Me Bro” and some prayers. If Aisu or Marcus says, “That’s too far” or “I have plans” then there is no letting it play out. That’s why “Let It Play Out” is bad in this instance, notice how it’s not a bad defense because “Bad Guy Used to Say It”. That is a terrible argument against it and is really just a form of a subliminal ad-hominem as opposed to an actual argument. Throughout the years of OCW, many people, and people of importance, have used "Let It Play Out" as a valid defense because sometimes, you just don't have the full picture. There is a time and a place. This was not one of those times but doesn't make the argument suddenly good. Speaking of “that bad guy”, I don’t know if it’s out of fear that there’s another among us or just horniness to call it out first and say “I told you so” but not everything is Chet. A number of months back, Kass said something (and this very well could have been Kass doing Kass things and if so well played and power to ya) along the lines of “Wow The MARK OUTs on this show remind me of Chet Era” as if mark outs are a valid indication of anything of value. This IS(as opposed to could be) my ignorance talking, as I wasn’t around then, but associating an action with bad person and calling the action bad because of said association is dumb and not helpful to anything. If there is an issue or something that’s bad, say why it’s bad and not just some comparison to Dark Times of OCW. That is of course if you want to productively improve things and have a discourse and not just saying things for your own enjoyment. Part 6: Final Thoughts and Discord Stuff This is a single video on a single weekly show. Calling this “duplicitous snake like behavior” is FUCKING crazy. Similarly (as Jake already touched on), responding with “ESPECIALLY with all I contribute” is also FUCKING crazy. Let us (including me, possibly only me because this is so late) relax.
  9. We open on an old looking office room, one we have not seen in a long time. Old wrestling tapes, OCW titles and alcohol bottles adorn the walls where in the center, a desk can be seen hosting the owner and head coach of Scumchester Academy, Wrex. He seems to be staring at a TV in the corner of the room, a more current match than usual is being watched, one involving Samsin Simpson. Wrex: Why did I even bother with this guy.. Suddenly a loud doorbell can be heard throughout the Scumchester ranch house, begrudgingly he stands, heading downstairs to the door he opens it, revealing.. Wrex: Luis!? Bishop: WREX! Wrex’s favorite student instantly goes in for a hug to which Wrex accepts. Wrex: The hell are you doing her kid? It’s been months since you’ve shown up! Bishop: I’ve been working…saving up money to come see you. Bishop: You’ve been out here for so long and I wanted to come and see you and get a good old session before our trip to Mexico. Bishop: Speaking of…you got me for my ticket right? Wrex: …Quick training session huh? C’mon, we’ll take the truck. Bishop: Sweet! I’ll get the keys. Bishop leaps into the air and springs into action as he goes to where the former CCW Champion always keeps his keys, a commemorative bingo bomber glass. Bishop: Anything else? Wrex: Yeah uh.. grab me a beer while you’re at it. Bishop scurries across the living room grabbing the beverage from the mini fridge hidden under the coffee table. Running out of errands, Wrex awkwardly scratches the top of his receding hairline as he watches his student complete all of his tasks. Wrex: So Bishop.. about that plane ticket… Bishop: You got me right? Ain’t no way I’m gonna be able to make it especially after coming all the way out here. Wrex: So there was.. A mixup with the airline, but the good news is I chartered a private plane, so I’ve got an easy way to get you there.. Bishop: So I won’t need a ticket? Wrex: Kinda.. It’s only a two seater.. Wrex brings out an empty suitcase and places it on the floor before unzipping it. Bishop: Oh you got me a- Wrex: And Parca paid for it.. So get in. Bishop takes in a big gulp as the camera fades away.
  10. All of that requires benefit of the doubt and the assumption of good will/intent. It's easy to afford that to someone you know and talk to but when someone already has negative preconceived notions about you, you can expect to not be afforded those liberties, regardless of true intent or the validity of the criticisms.
  11. Text gives you more dialogue, detailing, and characterization. All of that together, gives context to what's happening, which is what that shower video needed.
  12. Sort of a 3 2 1 with some bonuses thrown in. It’s sort of a critical look for what was a show I enjoyed. Strap in Cause I got A LOT to say about The Wrestling Club This Wrestling Club(John-Marcus) promo was very disappointing to see, and not in the usual TWC way. First off, John started by welcoming back Marcus who has been gone for a month but John acts like he has been gone forever even though Marcus says that they have been training in that timespan. Now when I read it, it definitely did make me laugh but it also didn’t make too much sense that John is publicly inquiring Marcus about what he’s been up to after…a few missed texts and calls. However, that’s not my main gripe with this promo, it really was just a weird interaction I wanted to point out. My main gripe is this: Marcus: I don’t know about you, but I’ve done enough cardio to last the rest of my career here this past month. Let’s say you and I stop running and just get those illustrious tag titles? John: I’m all for it! This sorta just summed up all the bad parts about TWC. It’s just a very linear approach to a character and a linear approach to OCW as a whole. Just go for title because title, and if fail, try again. Obviously, this doesn’t mean they’re gonna go directly into another feud with Sanctum but that’s not the point. From a character perspective, this is just boring. Marcus and John already lost to Sanctum, so why them again. Why not Marcus and Elliott, while John takes care of Mac and Marisa. Hell, why not address the recent loss at Certified Greatness for those very same tag titles that John was literally crying over. This promo seems like it was written during the beginning of S17 after the S-Cup not after a failed attempt at the tag titles. What happened to Original Club M.O. of trying to “Spread Wrestling Throughout OCW” and dominate, cause you can do that without being tag champs. Even if they were like “We’re gonna crush anyone who gets in our way back to those titles” that at least opens the door to other challengers instead of acting like they’re next in line as if they didn’t just lose. Because of this, this promo just felt very bland. Even if you wanted to portray John as someone obsessed and infatuated with the tag titles as I think is the goal, then you could have Marcus be not so on board with him. Have Marcus interested in other things, and John weirdly stuck on the titles so Marcus hesitantly goes along with it while subtly noticing how strange John is acting. Just SOMETHING that’s there to differentiate it from literally any other generic tag team promo. On the topic of the Wrestling Club, I really like the Parker(s)-Marissa promo. Short, fun, and sweet and I think it did a lot for all characters involved. Maybe this means that Elliot is replacing John in his feud with Marissa-Mac which wouldn’t be terrible if not for above. Especially, since you could still have that Mixed Tag Match be the payoff as you can Control Both Tag Partners Online in 2k22(at least the option is there, haven’t tried it). But yeah, really like this promo. Cardio Crazy The Terramisue promo was a real good change of pace and change of style from your traditional wrestling promo. I don’t think it’s a hot take to say that these two handlers working together has caused them to push each other and more importantly, just push the boundary for OCW content and storytelling. Don’t have much to say about the specifics of the promo, other than that I hope no one reads the promo thinking Terra and Sue just chose a gym with really rude people there cause I’m 99.9% sure, that’s not at all what happened. Hon Appetit! This Rust promo was the Chef’s kiss. Again, not much to be said. It lays it all out there and explains it perfectly and sets up the rest of the story. Another key part is Rust isn’t “suddenly” acting heelish. He’s acting the same way he has been for a while now except his views just don’t align with Everrett and because of that, they clash. Now instead of talking about how and why the promo is good can we talk about how Rust said he gonna destroy the CCW title. WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN!? Is he going to retire the belt? Can he do that? Is he going to rename the belt? Can he do that? Is he going to take a hammer and break that damn belt? Can he do that? Regardless, I DON’T want to find out so I hope Tony Twinkle Toes sends the Rotten Rapier Rust packing. Marvelous showing and probably my promo of the night and a great promo to end the show with writing wise. Need More Moore! I’m not sure if it was a mixup and miscommunication or just some total oversight, but this Harri and Ashley promo made no sense at all. From last week, we seen Harri cost Moore the match which should make Moore be the one that’s trying to get Harri, but that’s not at all what happened this week. First we get a reference to the previous segment, with Ashley not falling for the same prank. Fine. It sets up the second gag. Funny and unexpected, fine. Then, we get Ashley chasing Harri, who then turns on her with a shovel, who then turns back to hide under a box. We’re starting to lose it. How Harri lost her shovel, and how Moore managed to turn the chase was never made clear. The whole segment, sort of made Moore look a bit week cause she was basically toyed with but you know what, that’s fine. How did they end it? They had Harri escaping and presumably walking towards her car. When first watching this, I was like this is fine, that is fun. Until we get to Harri’s match, which means she’s still in the building. Harri goes on to win that match no problems and just celebrates. During all this time, WHERE IS ASHLEY MOORE? How are you gone have Harri escape then she goes to a spot where Moore knows she’s gonna be at and Moore doesn’t come out at any point during the match or after. Especially, after Moore’s match got interrupted by Harri literally last week. This makes Moore look weaker than the actual segment itself did cause now I’m conditioned to think that Moore just doesn’t care about following up on Harri at all, and if Moore, the character, doesn’t care, then why should I? Who Goes There, Matey? From an initial viewpoint, both Viktor Karmine and Terra’s video promos seem like they were both just simple text promos that were turned into video for the sake of visibility where they make their way to thering and talk to the camera about the person they’re feuding with. But upon the closer inspection (and watching the videos all the way through) that’s not the case. Karmine comes out sporting a new more branded gear and refined gear than when we last saw him. A small bonus. Then he goes sort of through the motions (key thing is it only lasts for 30 seconds), talks about and calls out Mantis who he’s feuding with. Lights go out and it’s not Mantis. It’s Deadzone who is also sporting a whole new look. Cobra decided to put the controller down, leave his mom’s basement, and for lack of a better term, get some bitches on his dick. They beat up Viktor ahead of their showdown next week and who comes out to save him, Chris Baxter! Who is also involved in that sort of triangle storyline with Mantis and it’s also the first time we’re seeing Baxter on 2k22. This promo ticked a lot of boxes, didn’t drag on, showcased some people (which is acceptable for this point of the game), built for a match next week, and still continued the Baxter-Karmine-HMR storyline. Not much you can complain about. On the Terra promo, it was alright. Showcased Terra having a sort of return to her old self, but like her old old self not her old self, you know. She talked directly to Kasstianity, threatening them however, I wish there was a little tiny bit more to sort of take advantage of the video aspect. Perhaps, Terra could have been rotated slightly when talking about returning to her old self which would act as a visual nod to that one shot of her from her feud with Valkyrie and would be a strictly video reference that says that Kasstianity might make Terra act out of pocket and that it ain’t all sunshine and daisies. This would have better showcased how Sue is now the most important thing to Terra and that Kasstianity might not want to mess with that. Most Importantly, this video was not as long as the Karmine one. Triple Threat This match on paper, was a tossup to me on if it was gonna deliver and I think overall it did. John Carter was by far the standout of the match which was a shame as the other two seem in position to make some run at some titles in their near future. I think what most people will take away from this is “John is a Dirty Dodge Cheeser” and that’s a completely fair assessment. If John wants to be a “Dodge Demon” and in general for dodges in this game, for it not to look like shit I think it’s only reasonable that you make sure about 3 things. You dodge when an opponent attacks You dodge if that attack would actually hit you(and not out of range) You dodge away from the attack John failed each of these 3 things multiple times during the match and when you do that, visually it seems like you’re playing a game and just dodging to be invulnerable rather than a wrestler dodging as a defensive reaction to an oncoming attack which is what a good dodge looks like. That being said, I don’t think it ruined the match and don’t even think it ruined John for me in the match as that very same dodging made what I think was spot of the night. The suplex onto the outside was nice but the spot happened earlier in the match. John was taunting a downed Danny with a “Come get it” taunt then Danny gets up and instantly charges at John to which John dodges like a goddamn matador. I even clipped it here https://clips.twitch.tv/ImpossibleEmpathicGnatSMOrc-3A2kcmD7CSXEmWzd. Not only was this just a good heel spot, but it also made sense that John would use his speed and intellect to get one over on the two muscle heads he was in the match with. That was beautiful and led to that nasty like STO on the apron from Danny. On the topic of Danny, in the beginning of the match he straight up left the ring. I don’t know why this has to be said, but leaving the ring immediately as a heel, especially a heavyweight strong heel as opposed to a cowardly one, doesn’t build any heat it just makes me not want to watch cause you’re a roided out baby wrestling instead of a real man. Luckily, both John and Derek didn’t let that happen for too long and honed in on Danny. Imagine, the rookies are the ones that have to teach the wrestler how to work. To be fair to Danny, he did taunt after he left the ring which would have allowed for follow up, and he ran directly at John as soon as he left the ring so it’s clear he wasn’t JUST trying to avoid confrontation and damage and was just doing it for a spot. Still stupid, but atleast it’s from a character and wrestling standpoint and not one of getting a competitive advantage. Now going back to John AND Danny, was the finish of the match. Danny goes for a somewhat surprise Act Of Violence which is a slower move which John wasn’t expecting so when he immediately dodged, not only did he dodge in the wrong direction but Danny was still doing the move when the invulnerability from the dodge ended so he got clipped. It’s the perfect ending as the biggest gripe from the match ended up costing John instead of getting him the win. You couldn’t have written it any better. Final Thoughts There were more RPs than last show and there were some better ones on this show like the ones from Rust, Kasstianity, Terramisue, Cort and a few others that had some good form but also felt like some were a bit lost. I think the ones on Turmoil were more focused which some lacked as I would guess people sort of went “well what now?” after doing their welcome back promo. Might be tripping on that one but who knows. There were some “murder” matches but that’s ok as that means that the game doesn’t hold someone’s hand to the point where it looks “competitive”. Plus, early on in the game, there’s gonna be the biggest gap between those who practice and those who don’t where last year, everybody had played the game so much that it didn’t matter if you were actively DMing as it was basically diminishing returns since everyone was basically as good as they were gonna be. I know this was sort of critical look at the show but I really enjoyed it. I think every part of the show took a solid step up from last week, from the segments, to the written rps, to most importantly the matches. Good to see that we are all heading in the right direction and that we weren’t a good bunch last couple of years because we understood the game, but we were a good bunch because we were putting in the effort to understand the game which is way more important and it shows here and makes me happier for the rest of the season. Speaking of the rest of the season, I can’t wait for the Walk Through The Fire tournament. We’ve had tournaments recently but this is pretty different. 16 Heads Walk In. 13 Matches. Every Match is Win or Go Home. A good switch up from recent tournaments. Can’t wait to see what many of you have next, even those I didn’t mention here, and I look forward to the rest of the season.
